  2. CREASING THE BRITISH MUSEUM: TOPOLOGY FINDING OF CREASE PATTERNS FOR SHELL STRUCTURES

Oval R.; Mesnil R.; van Mele T.; et al. (2024)
Journal of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures
Several structural systems rely on a specific hierarchy between their constitutive elements, which results in topological constraints on the feasible patterns that can describe them. Folded, corrugated, or creased surface structures require this bipartition, also called two-colouring, between independent wavy and smooth directions. Finding a valid pattern for complex design problems is not straightforward and identifying relevant ones is ...

  4. Frustration-induced quantum criticality in Ni-doped CePdAl as revealed by the μ SR technique

    Ishant I.; Shiroka T.; Stockert O.; et al. (2024)
    Physical Review Research
In CePdAl, the 4f moments of cerium arrange to form a geometrically frustrated kagome lattice. Due to frustration, in addition to Kondo and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interactions, this metallic system shows a long-range magnetic order (LRO) with a TN of only 2.7 K. Upon Ni doping at the Pd sites, TN is further suppressed, to reach zero at a critical concentration xc≈0.15. Here, by using muon-spin relaxation and rotation (μSR), we ...

  5. The metabolic fingerprint of Scots pine-root and needle metabolites show different patterns in dying trees

    Hunziker S.; Nazarova T.; Kather M.; et al. (2024)
    Tree Physiology
The loss of leaves and needles in tree crowns and tree mortality are increasing worldwide, mostly as a result of more frequent and severe drought stress. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) is a tree species that is strongly affected by these developments in many regions of Europe and Asia. So far, changes in metabolic pathways and metabolite profiles in needles and roots on the trajectory toward mortality are unknown, although they could ...
